I just wet myself when I got this in my inbox – a brand spanking new remix by Entrepreneurs of Capsize, the latest single from Dels. It’s double rainbow-tastic. I Love Entrepreneurs and love Dels too. The day is much better now.

Today many of you will have heard the sad news of the passing of Gil Scott-Heron. I’m not going to write an obituary for him here, but I thought a good way to honour him would be to introduce you to a potential new hip-hop star that may be the man to take his mantle.

The musician come graphic designer from Ipswich, Dels (born Kieren Dickins), is in a three album deal with Big Dada and can proudly include Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard amongst his fans. He is, like Gil Scott-Heron, a real innovator. Dels is a musician who happens to rap.

Dels’ first album GOB, is an experimental explosion of synths, beats and rhyme. ‘I am the architect of my thoughts where unicorn shit glitter are welcome aboard‘ is declaimed within the first 30 seconds of the record which pretty much somes up the rest of it. At the moment, GOB is leading my album of the year list – and would recommend listening to it now to really understand what Dels is all about.

Lost It (In the End) – New Mark Ronson single feat. Ghostface Killah

He singeth.

He’s still scared of his own voice though – hiding it under effects – but Mark Ronson‘s vocals are pretty good from what I can hear on his new track Lost It (In The End).

Mark has done it again though. It is an awesome tune. This album is shaping up to be pretty spectacular. I already loved the first single Bang bang bang with the incredible MNDR and am now shivering with excitement over hearing the whole of the Record Collection LP when it’s out on 27 September in the UK.

There’s not much music I don’t like, but grime? Hmm, still not convinced. One of the only commercially successful alternatives in British hip hop has been Mike Skinner (aka The Streets) but he’s not the only Brit producing hip hop that ain’t grime.

Birmingham, Skinner’s home town, seems to be a hot bed of talented British hip hop artists.

One prime example is FYBA. I’ve been listening to his tunes for a while now. His old school loops have mesmerised me like Barack Obama.

FYBA was formerly in a group with Mike Skinner in the 90s, but now works on his own. But he still seems to be in good company – exploring his top friends on MySpace reveals some brilliant talent, including Vanitee.

Now, enjoy these two MP3s handed down from FYBA to holeytonal. Ooh, and you won’t find Ooh Baby anywhere else, nowhere else.
